While the landlord is required to provide at least one working smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector within 15 feet of all bedrooms, you are required to provide and maintain a working battery in all smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in the unit, per the Chicago Residential Landlord Tenant Ordinance.
So go stock up on some batteries and make sure your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors are working properly!
